'Global Rainbow' is a large-scale urban laser installation conceived by the American artist, Yvette Mattern. Advanced laser technology is used to generate a horizontal rainbow using seven laser units to generate the seven colours of the rainbow.
'Global Rainbow' was first presented by Mattern in New York, in January 2009. Last February, in the year of the 50th anniversary of the invention of the laser, and under the name 'From One to Many', the rainbow streaked three kilometres across the sky above Berlin over nine evenings as part of transmediale.10 (co-produced by amino and Transmediale).
We are now developing plans to project the rainbow over several UK cities during December this year and January 2012. We'll have more details as they become available.
